If You See One Pest Inside Your Home It Points to a Bigger Problem

By: Tim Mcintosh

When does a pest problem go from being manageable to out of control? Is there a number of pests that you are okay with having inside your home? For most people, the ideal number of pests inside the house is zero. Unfortunately, pests are very good at finding their way inside of houses so you must be proactive in your efforts to discover and treat a pest problem.

If I see one pest does that mean there are more?

In the vast majority of situations seeing one pest in your house means that there are others you do not see. Pests such as cockroaches and rodents are good at staying out of sight. When you see one out in the open it typically means that the infestation is serious. The reality is that even if you only have a few pests, those pests will eventually multiply and can still cause harm to your family and property. If you see a pest in your home – even if it is only one – you need to take action to ensure that you do not have a widespread infestation.

Why are there pests inside my home?

When you see a pest in your home one of the first questions that comes up is, ‘why are there pests inside my home?’ Pests come inside houses looking for things such as shelter, food, and water. The vast majority of houses provide easy access to all of those elements. You may even be unknowingly attracting pests into your home with easy access. Breaches around your home – such as damaged weather stripping – can make it easy for pests to get inside. If you have a leak or other moisture issue inside your house it can draw pests inside. An overflowing trashcan, forgotten spill, or leftovers in the sink can tempt pests to come inside in search of food. In order to minimize your chances of drawing pests into your home, you need to seal up breaches, deal with water issues, and make sure food is stored and disposed of properly.

How do I know when it is time to bring in help for pests?

The quickest and most effective way to eradicate pests from your home is with the help of a pest control professional. The reality is that one pest out in the open points to a more serious problem behind the scenes. If you are serious about eliminating pests from your home then you should bring in professional help as soon as you see a pest or signs of a pest.

If you see one pest in your home there is a high likelihood that there are more pests that you cannot see. Eliminating the things that draw pests inside and getting professional help are the two most important steps you can take to reduce your risk of developing a serious pest infestation.
